Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MiCBT) Group: 10-12 weeks
This evidence based group teaches mindfulness skills using cognitive behavioral therapy to help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression which has been effective in helping patients with chronic medical conditions. Feelings of helplessness that are sometimes associated with having a chronic medical condition can result in feelings of anxiety. Auto-immune diseases in particular are exacerbated by chronic exposure to stress. This group aims to help increase self- awareness, improve mindfulness, reduce negative thoughts which help improve emotional regulation and self-control.
MiCBT is delivered in four stages:
The Personal Stage focuses on increasing self-awareness regarding emotional reactions.
The Exposure Stage focuses on behavior regulation which integrates mindfulness meditation.
The Interpersonal Stage emphasizes mindfulness-based interpersonal skills.
The Empathic Stage helps to improve regulation through an integration of mindfulness, compassion and overall improvement in quality of life and well-being.
Recognizing the power of the mind and body connection can be empowering. Learning mindfulness techniques can help one’s ability to cope with negative emotions often associated with managing stressful situations including having a chronic medical condition.
